BYGONE THEATRE
revisit, renew, reimagine
BYGONE THEATRE is a registered charity founded in 2012. Our mandate is to produce theatre written or set in the early 20th century, focusing on historical aspects in design and incorporating a classic cinema aesthetic.

In 2019 Bygone Theatre was nominated for 14 Broadway World Toronto Awards, including Best Community Theatre and Best Play (Equity) and took home a total of 5, including Best Direction of a Play (Equity). We took a hiatus our 2020/21 season due to the COVID19 pandemic, and used that time to develop our charitable initiatives. Our Sustainability Mandate was presented at the United Nations SDG Action Awards in 2020, and we expanded our Diversity and Accessibility Mandates to include clear, quantifiable goals. In fall of 2021 we were awarded the Toronto Star Readers' Choice Award, Diamond Level, for Best Live Theatre and were voted runner-up for Best Small Theatre in the NOW Magazine Readers' Choice Awards. In 2022 we received a Canada Council grant for a Digital Now project presented in March 2023.
